Justin Law

Former First Officer (A320, Dash-8 Q400) with a previous background in Web Development

London, UK/Hong Kong

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Hong Kong, the love of aviation was imparted into me from a very young age. Attending university in New York allowed me to take up flying lessons during school breaks in Toronto, where I have family. Gaining my PPL in 2015, I set my sight on making aviation a career. As I hold British Citizenship, I came to UK to complete my flying training, qualifying in 2017.

With determination and persistence, I was brought on as a First Officer by Flybe, flying the Dash-8 Q400 based out of Glasgow. The company gave me fantastic platform to develop my flying skills as well as my non-technical competencies. Logging just shy of 1000 hours on type, I made the jump to British Airways in 2020, where I was placed on the A320 fleet. I had completed the ground school exams, and was due to start the simulator phase of training when my type rating course was suspended.

Although I remain passionate about aviation, my background was in technology. I hold bachelor and master degrees in Information Management, where my concentration was in web development. I was passionate about using technology to create practical solutions to solve business problems. I had two years work experience as a front-end web developer in a C#/.Net programming environment. While I have tried to keep in touch with the latest trends and developments in the field of technology, I must admit my skills are somewhat rusty. That said I promise to do everything I can to catch up, and to become a valuable asset to your team.

Master's of Science in Information Management at Syracuse University

August 2011-May 2014

Bachelor's of Science in Information Management and Technology at Syracuse University

Graduated a year early from a 4-year bachelor’s degree, where my concentration was in Web Services Development.

Achieving Dean’s List academic standing, I was brought on as a Peer Advisor by the university. I was assigned a couple first-year students, meeting with them weekly to help with their assimilation to university life. Peer Advisors also gave tours to prospective students, in essence acting as an ambassador for the university.

I was also invited by two of my professors to act as their teaching assistant. Not only did I assist in class, I was given a certain amount of grading responsibilities. Moreover, I held office hours every week to aid students with their course work.

March 2020-August 2020

First Officer at British Airways

London Heathrow based First Officer on the Airbus A320 fleet. Prior to starting the sim phase of training, my type rating course was placed on hold as a result of the COVID pandemic, and was subsequently made redundant.

September 2018-February 2020

First Officer at Flybe

Based in Glasgow on the Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 fleet, flying a variety of domestic UK and European routes. Logged just shy of 1000 hours on type before leaving the company.

January 2013-December 2014

Technology Intern at SIDEARM Sports

SIDEARM Sports provides the software and technology that powers the websites, livestats, and video streaming for over 600 college, universitie and high school athletic programs across North America. As a development intern, I primarily worked with the integration of website designs or re-designs into actual live websites using HTML, CSS, and Java, and.Net programming. Towards the end of the internship, I was a member of the project team that oversaw the redevelopment of our integration process to feature responsive web-design elements.
