A new advert by the UK Government has caused uproar within the aviation community. The advert pictured a female pilot with the words “Naomi’s next job could be in cyber. (she just doesn’t know it yet)”, echoing an advert which was criticised at the beginning of the month for similar reasons.

BALPA have addressed the issue on Twitter, highlighting the fact that careers have been put at risk through a total lack of Government support for aviation through the current pandemic.

This was further echoed in an article in the Independent, where BALPA general secretary Brian Strutton further highlighted the lack of support from the government and the number of pilots who have lost their job as a result of the pandemic.

Training to become a pilot costs upwards of £100,000 and many pilots have lost their jobs but still need to pay off outstanding training debts. PilotsTogether is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to help and support all pilots who have been made redundant as a result of Covid-19.
